ABOUT THE GARDENS

Welcome to communitygarden.ca
in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario.
Here’s some basic information about the gardens.

What are the garden plots like?

Each plot is 8’x16’, so they’re easy to reach across – easy to tend. There are paths between all the plots, and there is a building on the garden property for storing equipment.

How much time is needed for a community garden?

Most community gardens require gardeners to spend enough time in  their garden so that each plot is kept  maintained and as free of weeds as possible. If this is too much work for one person, a community garden can be tended by a number of  gardeners or volunteers.

How much does it cost to join our community garden?

The plot fee is $15 per year and the money is used to purchase seeds, mulch, tools and water barrels for the garden. One can either pay the $15 or volunteer 5 hours of time to the garden over the course of the season.
